Spring 2022 One Room Challenge— week 1

I am beyond excited to share what my One Room Challenge with Better Homes and Gardens is with you! Drum roll please….. it’s our Kitchen! Yup, you heard that right, we are hopefully gonna to achieve a whole new kitchen by the end of May! I’ll be sharing the whole renovation over the next 8 weeks on Instagram and here on the Blog.

This kitchen has actually been in the works since we first viewed our house when it was for sale last summer. This house was a bit of a train wreck, everything had been neglected for the last ten years and some animals had left their mark through the home, including the kitchen. Of course, some how I saw potential despite the piles of garbage and damage everywhere and thought it would be a great idea to buy it! As soon as we decided to go for the house I started hand drawing kitchen plans. For those of you that don’t know I’m actually a kitchen designer by day and get to design kitchens for others. So this was my first crack and actually getting to design our very own kitchen.

Before of the kitchen:
this is during one of our viewings of the home.

To start , I went to Pinterest to find all the inspiration! I knew immediately I wanted to do a flush inset face frame construction that was in a greige colour. I just adore that traditional look of a framed cabinet, and it was top on my must have list. I also knew I wanted to keep modern elements within this kitchen. With multiple hand drawings and revisions I landed on a plan that had a mix of traditional yet modern touches.

My favourite part of the design are the custom millwork range hood and the glass relief in the upper cabinets running into the countertop. The design will also feature small touches of black and a couple accents of gold. The countertop will be a light coloured quartz with beautiful veining. I am very excited about my wall sconces on either side of the range hood. Fingers crossed they actually show up with all the crazy shipping delays out there!

Check in next week for updates on tear out progress, electrical, and updates on design! We still need to finalize faucets and backsplash, and I’m sure I’ll need your help to pick!

Don’t forget to check back at all the other amazing people taking part in the One Room Challenge HERE! The group that participates in this are all truly inspiring!

Until next week!
